Business Transformation in Action

Exit Planning for the Owner of a Mid-sized Commercial Aluminium & Glass Company

  • Situation: Managing Director / Owner (MDO) client wishing to transition away from the day-to-day operations, plan for retirement, and exit his multi-million Aluminium / Glass Company via a sale to a large corporate buyer.

  • Solution: Lachlan Maclean provided project leadership and utilised Fulcrum Thinking alliance partners to undertake a strategic review of business operations including implementing improvements in Branding, Marketing and Sales processes. Fulcrum Thinking also undertook an organisational and team structure review and implemented Lean Manufacturing Systems and processes to position the business for a successful exit.

  • Outcome: A 3-year engagement resulted in the MDO achieving his objectives of transitioning away from the day-to-day operations and selling his business whilst retaining ownership of the land and facilities. A factory lease arrangement entered into with larger form providing a passive income stream back to the MDO for his retirement.


IPO for an Innovative IoT Electrical Test and Tagging System Start-Up

  • Situation: MDO client required “seed capital” to fund the technology development of an innovative electrical equipment safety testing and tagging system based on a Software as a Service (SaaS) model and mobile phone connectivity.

  • Solution: Working closely with the company’s board as an interim CEO, Lachlan Maclean led the development of a Strategic Business Plan that included the creation of a new small public company structure enabling the company to apply for Government Grants whilst pursuing an IPO shareholder marketing strategy with the Australian Small Scale Offerings Board (ASSOB) to raise shareholder equity funds.

  • Outcome: A 5-year engagement resulted in funding goals being achieved, the technology achieving a Minimum Viable Product stage and the company securing a pre-sale strategic partnership with an Australian distribution supplier to deliver the system into the Australian market.


Executive Leadership and Operational Improvement of a Destination Snow Resort

  • Situation: The new MDO of small boutique styled snow resort in the NSW Snowy Mountains required improvement in the executive leadership and management of all facets of the snow resort’s business from customer service interface to delivery of overall resort infrastructure and operations.

  • Solution: In an embedded 10-year immersive role as the resort’s General Manager, Lachlan Maclean led a multi-disciplinary team in strategic planning and execution to dramatically improve the snow resort’s service culture, it’s accommodations, food and beverage facilities and on-mountain operations.

  • Outcome: The snow resort’s overall reputation in the marketplace improved significantly underpinning the winning of a new long-term Head Lease for the MDO. The resort’s enhanced market positioning and customer service experience led to an improved and sustainable business.
